Wintringham is a highly specialised welfare company that provides housing and care to elderly, frail homeless men and women. The highly specialised nature of our work makes us almost unique in Australia's welfare system. We believe strongly in the principles of social justice and the rights of homeless people. These principles also include the rights of staff to work in a congenial atmosphere where their contribution is valued and respected. Wintringham is today widely acclaimed for the development and implementation of our innovative and responsive aged care services. The company is quite different from most other aged care providers in that we see ourselves as essentially being housing providers into which we provide quality and appropriate aged care services. Our identification with housing issues and their essential linkage to aged care services has enabled us to develop a wide range of services using a whole-of-government approach rather than relying exclusively upon funding from Commonwealth and State aged care departments. The development of these services has resulted in significant government policy initiatives and changes which can, in part, be attributed to input from Wintringham. As a result, we are regularly invited to participate in a wide range of government and industry advisory bodies and committees, at which we continue to advocate for the rights of elderly homeless people.
