Specialist Dementia Care Program at Wintringham
The Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP) is an Australian Government initiative that provides a person-centred, multidisciplinary approach to care for people with severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.
This program is designed to reduce or stabilise symptoms, allowing people to move back into less intensive aged care environments. The average length of stay is about 12 months.
Given our 30-plus years of experience supporting people aged over 50 with complex needs, Wintringham was chosen to deliver this specialised service.
Our purpose built Specialist Dementia Care Unit, located at Wintringham’s McLean Lodge Residential Aged Care Home in Flemington offers a warm, welcoming and tailored environment for its residents. See more about McLean Lodge here.
The Unit is architecturally designed to support people within a dementia friendly environment. It can accommodate six people including bedrooms with private ensuite, a kitchen, living area and office space. Specialist staff provide personalised 24 hour care including recreation staff, seven days per week.

Who is eligible for the SDCP?
The SDCP has been designed for people aged 50 years and over who are exhibiting very severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia and have been assessed as eligible to receive residential aged care.
Eligibility for SDCP is determined by Dementia Support Australia.
