The Australian Government announced a revised start date for its new Aged Care Act, pushing the rollout from 1 July to 1 November 2025. For organisations like Wintringham, this delay is a welcome opportunity to ensure our clients, staff and services are fully prepared for one of the most significant reforms to Australian aged care in decades.
The new Aged Care Act is designed to place older people at the centre of their care. This focus on autonomy, dignity and respect has always been at the heart of Wintringham’s mission – making the new legislation a natural fit for our values and approach.
With the extra time, Wintringham will work closely with our clients to prepare them and support them through the transition, while also investing in staff training and systems that align with the incoming Act.
A key part of the reform includes the introduction of a Statement of Rights, which outlines what every older person should expect when receiving care. These rights include:
- Autonomy and choice
- Fair and equal access
- Safe, high-quality services
- Privacy and protection of personal information
- Open communication without fear
- Support from advocates and social connections
Alongside these rights, Strengthened Quality Standards will set clearer expectations for how care is delivered across the sector.
For Wintringham, these reforms reaffirm what we have always believed in; that every older person deserves to be treated with respect, to feel safe, and to have control over their care.
As we prepare for the November launch, we remain focused on delivering care that reflects these values – backed by the skills, compassion and commitment of our staff.
